Korean Crazy About Plastic Surgery

By

Korean cosmetic surgery has been very popular in Asia for many many years, and many Korean faces on the silver screen are the best advertisements for this new type of beauty.

About 10 years ago, at that time, Korean TV productions started to became popular in China. On the screen, Korean stars were invariably beautiful with delicate facial features, flawless face, snowy skin and slim body figures, and some of them frankly admitted in public that their beauty are not natural. This was how Chinese people get to know Korean cosmetic surgery. Korean had the idea of cosmetic surgery from when they were kids, and would go to a professional private plastic surgery to give themselves a perfect image. The whole country seems to think there is nothing wrong to change your physical body by plastic surgery. The parents are very open and supportive for their children to get to do this. They take it as prize and reward to their child if they got a high score in some important exams or successfully got into a famous school. There was a well-known joke, said if you are in Korea visiting a university and a middle school; you will feel strongly you went to two different countries.

And now the tread spread all over other countries in Asia. If you want to know how popular it is, here in China the traveling agencies have put on the holiday trip to South Korea, but note this not for visiting and sight seeing the country, but to do the plastic surgery!!! It is short trip, only takes 2 or 3 day for the surgery. The surgery trip is very popular, many bookings. Go on a trip then come back with more beautiful face..wow like magic!

Korean plastic surgeons are excellent at facial surgery such as double-eyelid, augmentative rhinoplasty and face lifts. Compare with westerners, eastern girls are more likely to have a less-straight noses and no epicanthic fold in their eyelids, so Asian people have a greater demand on plastic surgery on facial areas. These procedures can cost around RMB20,000-50,000 in Korea, and patients vary widely in age and have different demands. Nose surgery is popular among teenagers, while fat filling is more common for people over 40. Patients who choose eyes cosmetic surgery range from 10 years old to senior citizens. Double-eyelids surgery takes about one hour, and it normally takes one or two weeks for recovery.

Fat filling surgery has been getting very popular in the past few years. The biggest advantage of that is it can be used on any part of your body, including the faces, breasts and hips. The surgeon draws a certain amount of fat from the patients’ abdomen or thigh, then separate the undamaged fat cells and injects them into the part that needs filling. The surgery is minimally invasive and there is hardly an rejection reaction. But this procedure requires very advanced techniques so that a certain amount of fat will be finally absorbed by the body.

The aim of cosmetic surgery is to help create and maintain beauty. A truly successful operation not only modifies a part of a person, but also refines his or her image. Nature and harmony are still the final goal of the cosmetic surgery.

Please don't judge them based on your own culture, that's ethnocentric and unfair. Maybe this is what they think of as normal and acceptable in their culture.

Hi Kat, I am actually not judgeting, but dispaly the reality. No judgement words in my article but it's happening.

Though you should mention there's a lot of pressure to look beautiful. I myself look like "a very ugly Chinese girl", so I've been told. And if all you need is a surgery and the surgery is actually accepted, I wouldn't find it troublesome.
